Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses win Gold Banksia Award

Greenfleet would like to congratulate Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses on winning the prestigious Gold Banksia Award on Friday night, for reducing and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions in their 108 year old bakery business.

By harnessing the waste heat from refrigeration systems, redistributing heat recovered from freshly baked products, employing hybrid vehicle technologies and offsetting the remaining emissions via Greenfleet's tree planting program, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses have reduced their carbon footprint by over 5,000 tonnes
of CO2-e annually.

In their submission for the awards, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses commented, "It's the simplicity of the solutions that encourages us to continue to think green and to believe that we can all 'do our bit' to improve the world we live in."

"Most importantly: It feels good to do the right thing and it helps the business as well!"

Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses also won the Small and Medium Enterprises Business Sustainability Award, in which another Greenfleet supporter - Original Foods - was also a worthy finalist for their sustainable catering practices.

We'd also like to congratulate Monash University's Green Steps Program for winning the Education Award.  Developed by students for students, this hands-on sustainability education and leadership program empowers participants with the skills and knowledge to drive environmentally sustainable practices within organisations and the wider community.  Greenfleet benefited from the Green Steps Program recently, with Leonie Goodwin joining our team for a while to investigate international forestry standards - we'd definitely recommend the program to other businesses looking to help develop young environmental leaders.
