Greenfleet plants legally protected native forests that remove carbon as they grow. We use the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM), developed by the CSIRO and approved by the Australian Government to monitor and measure the carbon uptake at each of our forests.
While removing carbon, these biodiverse forests also deliver ecological benefits such as providing habitat to local wildlife, conserving biodiversity, improving the health of soils, and enhancing water quality and retention.
When you offset with Greenfleet, you are funding future reforestation projects that would not be possible without your support. You are helping plant new additional forests, which are legally protected and will draw down and capture the carbon you have offset as they grow.
This is Greenfleet’s approach to climate action. Supporters offset their emissions with us and fund future revegetation projects that will capture their emissions over the lifetime of the forest. This means our supporters are not only removing carbon from the atmosphere, but also funding long-term ecosystem restoration and mitigating biodiversity loss.
Conversely, carbon credits are typically derived from already completed projects and can vary greatly in quality and impact. The completed project is audited, and a number of ‘credits’ are produced as tradeable assets. Many carbon credits are based on calculations of ‘avoided’ carbon; for example, ‘avoided deforestation’ counts the carbon that will be saved by not cutting down an existing forest.
Old forests should be protected but Greenfleet does not support this ‘avoided’ carbon calculation approach.

- CSIRO: Greenfleet uses Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM), developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and approved by the Australian Government Department of the Environment to measure the carbon uptake of our forest at each planting site.
- Greenfleet's carbon estate is verified by an Australian government accredited carbon auditor.
- Pitcher Partners: Greenfleet’s work is independently audited by Pitcher Partners and carbon on title agreements are authorised by each landholder.
- Aboriginal Carbon Foundation: Projects with Social and Cultural benefits identified by Traditional Owners are verified by the Aboriginal Carbon Foundation.
- Legally-enforceable carbon agreements are authorised by every landholder ensuring forests are protected for up to 100 years and that no dispute over the ownership of plantings or carbon is permitted.
Greenfleet maintains a consistent carbon price that allows us to cover revegetation operations and land acquisition requirements. As of July 1, 2024 it costs $22 per tonne to offset carbon emissions with Greenfleet.

Greenfleet forests are legally protected via an on-title agreement for up to 100 years. This means the forests we plant are protected from land clearing, harvesting and house construction, even if the land is sold. This ensures that the forests planted can deliver on Greenfleet’s carbon obligation, as well as the ecological benefits that come from established native forests.
We return regularly to each planting during the establishment phase to check the health and growth rate of the trees and look for signs of emerging forest complexity, such as forest birdlife. We also use satellite imagery and drones where possible to add additional data.
100 years gives our forests a good head start, and we really hope that by the end of this century, the attitudes and policies that enable rapid deforestation will have changed.
There are significant resources and steps taken to apply a legal encumbrance on our forests. We hope our forests will continue to grow for many centuries to come, but in the meantime, we feel confident knowing they will take critical climate action and become well established for many generations.
Bushfires and drought are a reality in Australia and their impacts will continue to be exacerbated by climate change. The long-term solution is building resilient ecosystems that can regenerate in the face of these crises and cope long-term with these impacts. Established Australian native forests are resilient and can survive dry periods, fire, and pests.
As well as legally protecting Greenfleet forests for up to 100 years, if natural disasters such as fire, floods and drought occur, and intervention is required, we will replace them or replant in another area.
Please see this bushfire recovery update we wrote almost a year after Black Summer. During that terrible fire season, seven of Greenfleet forests were directly impacted. We have continued to monitor each of these and were able to regenerate naturally. This shows not only the fortitude of the Australian landscape but also the importance of planting native trees that can grow into resilient, biodiverse forests.
Greenfleet always plants a range of native species that will provide the right foundation for a complex forest to emerge.
We choose the appropriate local canopy and understory species for each bioregion, basing our planting plans on the government-approved best practice guidelines and referencing the local landscape. By including locally adaptive species in our planting, we ensure a resilient forest can thrive over the next 100 years.
We regularly plant between 20 and 50 unique species in a forest, which are always endemic to each specific site.
Each year, Greenfleet invests more than $1 million annually through our revegetation operations across regional areas in which we work.
By sourcing, hiring, and buying locally, we also contribute to regional employment opportunities. We utilise local earth mover, tree planting, and weed management teams and source seed from regional seed collectors and indigenous plant nurseries.
Greenfleet also works closely with a number of Traditional Owner groups and acknowledges that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are the longest standing land managers in the world.
Greenfleet is fully funded by thousands of individual and organisational supporters. We all have a role to play in climate action, and as well as reducing your own footprint where you can, you can offset the emissions you can’t currently avoid with Greenfleet. The offsets you purchase and donations you make to Greenfleet will directly fund our native reforestation projects and support our habitat and nature restoration work.

Greenfleet works with a variety of landholders to deliver our revegetation projects, including on owners of private land.
As a guideline, we generally look for land with at least 10 hectares available for reforestation that is cleared of existing native vegetation. We also want to work with landholders that are willing to legally protect the forest planted.

Greenfleet focuses on large scale ecosystem restoration and the vast majority of our revegetation operations are delivered by professional teams in the regions in which we work. Due to the nature of our work, we do not have a volunteer program in place at this stage.
